Welcome to the Positive Newscast - your source for positive and inspiring news stories from around the world!

This past Wednesday, July 21st, over four hundred people gathered at the University of Santa Monica in Santa Monica, California for “What if God was one of us?” - an informational evening on Spiritual Psychology and relationships.

Drs. Ron and Mary Hulnick the president and chief academic officer of the University of Santa Monica facilitated the evening, taking questions from the audience.  They shared that the goal of Spiritual Psychology is to gain release from conditioned patterns, and in the context of relationships the goal is to focus on how each relationship can be used to support spiritual growth.  For them, that means experiencing and sharing more loving, our true nature.  They recognize that relationships have value not simply because they give you the opportunity to share loving, but they also allow you to support each other through mirroring and triggering your unresolved issues, which helps us to increase our awareness of ourselves as loving beings.

Two powerful principles wove their way through the Drs’ responses: 1) There is no such thing as right or wrong, only choices and consequences, and 2) Take personal responsibility for your own internal disturbance regardless of what you think caused it.

These principles eliminate any opportunity to judge another person and pretend to be better than any one else.  They also eliminate the possibility of being a victim in any situation.  Our upsets and pain become fully our responsibility to take care of independent of any external circumstance.  There is freedom and power in living by these principles.  They are both humbling and empowering at the same time, and it is these qualities that allow us to love more freely and give more fully.

Drs. Ron and Mary Hulnick closed the evening with eight keys to successful relationships:

1.      Be willing to give up personal space
2.      Pay attention to the little things (small kindnesses)
3.      Keep your agreements
4.      Take responsibility for your own upset
5.      Share gratitude and appreciation regularly
6.      Be a really good listener
7.      Don’t complain about your partner with your friends
8.      Your job is not to change your partner.  Your job is to love your partner.

The University of Santa Monica is the Worldwide Center for the Study and Practice of Spiritual Psychology.  They are helping to bring more loving and wisdom into the world one soul at a time.  USM can be found on the Internet at: www.universityofsantamonica.edu
